Abstract

Laser cavities of the unstable resonator (UR) type have the potential for increasing the mode volume of a laser oscillator while maintaining high discrimination between transverse modes.1 This property makes UR geometries very attractive for semiconductor lasers since it allows an increase in the lateral dimension of the laser while maintaining single-lateral-mode operation and eliminating filamentation.
