Abstract

A focusing grating coupler (FGC) is an attractive component in integrated optics, since it operates for both lens and waveguide-air interface. By using the FGCs, we reported several integrated-optic devices such as integrated-optic disk pickup [1]. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a novel FGC having polarization detection function. This FGC is the key component for optical integration of magneto-optical (MO) disk pickup.
