Abstract

The technique of diffusing certain metals into electrooptic crystal substrates such as LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 has proved to be an effective method of forming low-loss active waveguides for modulation and beam switching.(1)(2) We have recently observed waveguide formation in titanium-diffused lithium tantalate, an original metal-substrate combination. This work is directed toward the development of a high-data-rate electrooptic Bragg diffraction modulator.
