Abstract

Polymer films have been the object of renewed research as organic polymers with large second-order nonlinearities are becoming available. One of the remaining problems for waveguide applications is the development of suitable cladding materials for optical confinement in channel waveguides.1-4 These materials must be capable of being easily fabricated into thin films and patterned for low-loss waveguide construction with design flexibility. Reported here is the fabrication of single-mode channel waveguides/phase modulators using a photopolymer projection printing technique.
