Abstract
Although a dimensional taper is proposed to obtain low-loss coupling between components with different mode profiles, it can achieve only a small taper ratio practically because a limited range of V values is permitted to suppress mode conversion loss under a single-mode condition. To obtain a large mode-profile-converting capability, therefore, a channel waveguide with both index and dimensional taper is required.1-3 In this paper the fabrication of such a taper is reported.
