Abstract

Recently, we have demonstrated cw lasing of a Nd-doped silica waveguide fabricated on Si substrates.1 Compared with fiber lasers,2 the waveguide lasers on Si substrates have the advantage for integration of optical and electrical components. In this paper we examine lasing characteristics of the Nd-doped waveguide lasers to show the possibility of laser-diode (LD) pumping.
