Abstract

W-tunneling polarizers1,2 are fibers only a few cm long which can be spliced to ordinary or polarization-preserving single-mode fibers. We demonstrate here such an inline fiber polarizer at 1.55 μm which is spliced to ordinary single-mode transmission fiber. The insertion loss is 1.5 dB and the extinction ratio is about 26 dB at 1.55 μm for a polarizer 4.3 cm. long.
