Heterostructure collinear graded index polymer waveguide modulator

Abstract

We are reporting a novel graded index (GRIN) collinear asymmetrical polymer waveguide modulator. Disparity of the waveguide pair provides us with a much larger dynamic range of phase matching condition suitable for single-mode waveguide to multi-mode waveguide coupling. Formation of a universal polymer waveguide was made possible by tuning the guiding layer index profile from stepped index to graded index through a mass perturbation method.
