Abstract
We have recently been investigating the possibility that an amplifier of picosecond light pulses based on two-photon stimulated emission (TPSE) can be realized in triethy- lenediamine (DABCO) vapor. Our scheme centers on using the one-photon-forbidden, two-photon-allowed [3s(+) →n,(+)] transition of this molecule.1 Two-photon amplifying transitions could possibly occur between the zero vibrational level of the à state to several thermally unoccupied (symmetric) vibrational levels of the state. The half frequencies for these transitions are all in the Rhodamine 6G dye-laser range, making it relatively convenient for obtaining the ~1-mJ ~5-psec pulses that we estimate are required to start a two-photon cascade.
