Abstract
Previous theoretical and experimental work on laser-induced diffusion (LID) in gas mixtures has focused on the generation of a macroscopic flux that is due to transport cross-section changes resulting from optical excitationd1-3 Among the most interesting species for studying these effects are polyatomics, which absorb CO2 laser radiation on vibration-rotation transitions. This interest stems primarily from isotope-separation applications.
