The Internal Second Harmonic Radiation from GaAlAs Lasers for Absorption Spectroscopy

Abstract

Optical field strength in a DH laser diode(LD) is strong enough to generate the internal SHG radiation. If the available power of SHG radiation at a detector is reasonably strong, the internal SHG radiation should be the excellent light source for spectroscopy. Its single mode oscillation can be controlled easily and the oscillation wavelength is easily taned over wide range, as much as 300 nm, by température change. Several authors had reported the observation of the self induced SHG in the laser diode but its application for spectroscopic light source has not been reported.
