Abstract

A substantial improvement in the harmonic conversion efficiency of low power sources is made possible by resonating the fundamental in an external high-finesse cavity containing the nonlinear medium1,2. External resonant harmonic generation with laser diodes is somewhat simpler than with conventional sources since optical feedback from an external cavity can be used to lock the laser diode on resonance and spectrally narrow its emission3. Significant intracavity power buildup has previously been demonstrated in the Self-locking power Buildup Cavity (SBC)4.
