Abstract
The investigation of quatum beats in semiconductors has attracted great interest recently.[1] From these measurements one gets information on the coherence properties of the excited states directly. We have succeeded in measuring the coherent propagation of polaritons in Cu2O2 which leads to a beat signal, the period of which increases with time. The time dependence of the beat period was quantitatively explained with the use of the quadrupole polariton dispersion, which determines in detail the propagation of the Fourier components of the incoming laser pulse. From these measurements the homogeneous linewidth and the oscillators strength were deduced.
