Abstract

Fibre-based devices incorporating single or multiple linear directional couplers and linear and nonlinear loop mirrors have been the subject of much experimental and theoretical investigation. Much effort has concentrated on the integration of rare-earth doped fibre sections. However, a full understanding of the operation of many configurations, particularly with ultrashort pulses, is still being sought. Results are presented here for i) a preliminary study under continuous-wave (cw) assumptions in the case of particularly complex dynamics of the circulating fields, ii) picosecond pulse operation and iii) ultrashort pulse dynamics.
