Abstract
Nonlinear dissipative quantum processes are difficult to treat. The expectation values of measureable physical quantities are related to the outward travelling fields of the system, and not to the field inside the cavity. The most common approach to solve these problems is to use a linearization method. In some cases, however, these methods are much too crude and lead to wrong results.
