Abstract

It is well known that Maxwell-Bloch equations for a single-mode laser with a saturable absorber (LSA) exhibit very complex dynamics including deterministic chaos. However, because of a large number of unknown parameters in LSA equations, direct numerical investigation of the chaotic behavior in LSA appears to be very difficult. Here we propose and investigate the reduced equations depending on a few parameters and governing local dynamics of LSA equations near the bifurcation points, which are responsible for the appearance of chaotic solutions. Our investigation provide the qualitative classification of the chaotic phenomena in LSA equations.
