Abstract
During the past decade there has been increasing interest in the use of rare-earth-doped monomode fibers in fiber laser and amplifier devices. The devices reported so far have used cw operation with different rare-earth-doped fibers resulting in a few mW of laser output[1] and Q-switching of Nd+3-doped fiber laser.[2] For many applications of fiber lasers, such as fiber sensors and nonlinear devices, high peak power with narrow pulse width is demanded. We report Q-switched operation and high efficiency cw operation on the 1D2–3F3,4 transition of Praseodymium-doped monomode fiber lasers[3] using dye laser (Rhodamine 6G) pump.
