Abstract
Linear gain in bulk zinc-blende semiconductor is assumed to be isotropic. This is due to the fact that the wave functions in the centre of the Brillouin zone are proper functions in the general point of the Brillouin zone as long as the theory takes into account the interaction only between the conductance and the valence bands [1]. These functions give irreducible representations not only of the Td double point group but also of the SO(3) double point group. Therefore the transitions are found to be isotropic. The interaction with other bands results in the Luttinger hamiltonian [2,3].
