“Recycling” Wasted Photons: A Device to Increase Laser Energy Used in Surgery

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The reflectance of human skin is wavelength-dependent and ranges from 15% to 70% through the visible and near-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. These reflected photons are scattered into the environment and essentially “wasted” in surgical laser applications.
