Abstract
The characteristics of the VEP response function to contrast were determined for a group of 5-6 month old infants. Previous measurements of VEP contrast response functions in infants (Norcia, Tyler and Allen, 1986) have shown that the contrast functions were not always monotonic, but often had two distinct limbs at different contrast levels. These limbs are seen in adult contrast response functions (Tyler and Apkarian, 1985), and may correspond to the responses of two separate mechanisms contributing to the VEP response.
