Abstract

It is important to characterize with precision the nature of vision loss that accompanies disorders of the retina. Conventional clinical tests of vision cannot always capture the details of vision loss. In retinitis pigmentosa (RP), for example, the ERG response is often abolished while visual acuity is unaffected. These tests are either too sensitive (ERG) or not sensitive enough (acuity) to monitor disease progress or to evaluate severity.
