Noninvasive Assessment of the Instantaneous Net Pulsatile Component of Ocular Blood Flow

Abstract

The instrument used to record the intraocular pressure pulse is the computerized Langham pneumatic tonometer (Ref. 1). It consists of a noninvasive small probe that measures the intraocular pressure and a computer that processes the data. Thus the pressure can be followed along each pulse and is seen to follow the arterial pulse cycle. The intraocular pressure measurements can be made with intervals on the order of 10 to 30 milliseconds; each specific measurement is performed over several microseconds.
