Abstract
Picosecond pulse propagation in optical fibers is well-known to be governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE)[1,2]. This equation models the effects of group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and nonlinearity. As a result of the balance between them, a special class of pulses (solitons) can propagate in optical fibers without changing their form[3]. Optical solitons are therefore expected to be suitable information carriers in optical communication systems.
