Abstract
Efficient frequency doubling in phosphorous doped optical fibers has been widely observed. A conversion efficiency of 13% at 951 watts peak power at the fundamental frequency has been reported [1]. Fibers prepared with only fundamental light (1.064µm) have previously been studied [2] and found to have the characteristic input intensity squared dependence on second harmonic (SH) output associated with χ(2) interactions. However, the growth of the SH is not quadratic with length [3], implying a length dependent χ(2) in the optical fiber. The purpose of this study is to determine what parameters are important during the preparation of the fiber for the final length dependence of the SH.
