Abstract
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is an important nonlinear effect which is observed at very low powers in single mode optical fibres1. Although a limitation in the performance of coherent transmission systems, nonlinear SBS gain can be usefully exploited in applications such as fibre amplifiers2,3 and Brillouin lasers4,5.
