Abstract

There is currently great interest in the development of new nonlinear optical materials in which the nonlinear susceptibility is enhanced as the result of local field effects. In this contribution, we review the results of our theoretical and experimental investigations of the role of local field effects in enhancing the nonlinear susceptibility of optical materials.
