Abstract

Non-regenerated repeater systems [3-6] with Er3+-doped fiber amplifiers have a great potential in the near future application by reason of high gain, low noise [1,2] and bit rate free characteristics. Lately, over 2000 km and 20 stages multi-Gb/s repeater system experiments are demonstrated [5]. It is predicted that the transmission length can be expanded nearly 10000 km, which corresponds to the transoceanic system.
