Field correlation within a completely incoherent primary source

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Spectral correlation properties of the field within a primary δ-correlated spherical source are investigated. It is shown that despite the fact that the source distribution is completely uncorrelated at any two source points, the field is correlated over distances of the order of the wavelength. In the asymptotic limit as the source radius becomes infinite, the degree of spectral coherence of the field at any two fixed source points is found to be identical with that of blackbody radiation.
