Abstract
Experimental results are given for a 3-D imaging system which accesses a wide angle field of view (FOV) but has no moving parts. The output of a 2-D array of LEDs is imaged onto the object field. The number of pixels in the field correspond to the number of LEDs in the array. The LEDs are sequentially excited with an amplitude modulated signal so that the phase of the transmitted and received signals can be compared for range information at each pixel. A single receiver channel is used which simultaneously monitors the full FOV. Processing electronics in the receiver performs bandlimiting to reduce noise, and, at each pixel, signal strength processing (brightness) for 2-D imaging, and phase processing for range.
