Abstract
The distributions of first-passage times for the build up of laser radiation from zero intensity to some predetermined value are measured for a Q-switched laser. Experiments were performed on a single-mode He–Ne laser operating near threshold. Q-switching was performed by applying a voltage pulse to an intracavity acoustooptic modulator. Results are compared to theoretical calculations.
