Effect of apodization in multiaperture aberrated imaging systems

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The effect of subaperture apodization on the amplitude impulse response has been calculated when various amounts of the third-order aberrations are present in the individual subapertures. A computer program has been developed which models a multiaperture imaging system. The model variables include size and placement of subapertures, type of apodizer, type of aberration, and choice of several canonical objects (point, two points, edge, or bar). The theoretical imaging performance of the system, in terms related to the choice of object, is reported. Depending on the intended application of the system, apodization can result in an improved image.
