Abstract
There has been considerable interest recently in beam apodization techniques for optical storage. This has been primarily aimed at decreasing the spot size to increase linear density. Although several people have shown that it is possible to achieve significant enhancements in the idealized case, very little has been done to look at the tolerance of these systems to departures from the ideal.
