Abstract

Vacuum ultraviolet windows and coatings are of considerable interest. There are materials which are transparent throughout a large portion of the ultraviolet spectrum but chemical or physical properties limit their application. The need for a wider choice of materials led us to explore the optical properties, conditions of deposition, and durability of rare-earth fluorides.
