Abstract

Defocused optical transfer function of a scanning acoustooptic heterodyning two-pupil system has recently been reported.1 In this paper, we explore its potential application in tunable incoherent spatial filtering. For example, with two offset pupil functions both having Gaussian shape we can achieve tunable bandpass filtering operations. The passband of the filter can be chosen by varying the size of the pupils, and the center frequency can be tuned by changing the separation of the offset pupils as well as the amount of defocus.
