Laser mode structure effects in the turbulent atmosphere

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The effect of the laser mode structure on the scintillations in a weakly turbulent atmosphere is examined. Higher-order single-mode incidence as represented by a Hermite-Gaussian beam is found to yield the same scintillations as the fundamental mode incidence (i.e., Gaussian beam wave).
