Resonant multiphoton ionization of krypton

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The multiphoton ionization of krypton via a three-photon intermediate resonance is investigated using the second harmonic output of a short pulse dye laser system. The laser was tuned over the range λ = 2860 to 3000 Å in order to investigate the influence of the 4p5d and 4p → 6s intermediate resonances on the ionization rate. Enhancements of more than an order of magnitude over the nonresonant four-photon ionization were observed at intensities as high as 8 × 1012 W/cm2.
