Abstract
It is well known that effective transfer functions for incoherent imaging can be synthesized by subtracting two images. However, most such schemes suffer due to the difficulty of choosing appropriate apertures with sufficient light throughput. Pseudorandom sequences have anticorrelation properties that make them attractive for optical processing. By using a phase (rather than amplitude) aperture, effective blocking of undesired frequencies is accomplished while maintaining a totally clear aperture. The trade-off is that the spectral bandwidths of the illumination must be restricted.
