Abstract
We studied the etalon filter whose free spectral range equals the mode spacing of high-power laser diodes at high-speed modulation. When the sun comes into the receiver’s field of view, more than 5-dB laser power has to be applied to maintain the same bit error rate as that for no background radiation. But, in the case of using the etalon filter, only 1-dB additional laser power will be sufficient to keep the same performance.
