Measurements of intensity distributions in a laser with a saturable absorber

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Steady-state intensity probability densities for the light coming out of a laser with an intracavity saturable absorber have been measured in a variety of operating conditions. The experiments were carried out on a He–Ne laser operating at λ = 633 nm with an intracavity Ne absorber cell. The operating point of the laser was varied with the help of a variable loss element. Measurements were made for several operating points of the laser spanning both bistable and monostable operations.
