Abstract

The focal plane array (FPA) infrared search and track (IRST) system is a scanning multiwavelength IR sensor. The system is used for measurement of the spatial distribution of sky radiance in three spectral bands within the 3-5 μm infrared region. It also has the capability to analyze digitized data samples (using digital filters, logic circuits, and multicomputer signal analysis processing equipment) to identify pointlike radiation sources which exhibit spectral signatures characteristic of hydrocarbon-burning aircraft.
