Phase-only filters

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Spatial filters are important elements for optical signal processing systems, e.g., for correlation operations. In this context, phase-only filters which modulate only the phase of an optical wavefront are of special practical importance. The main advantage of phase-only filters is demonstrated by its high light efficiency, which is very attractive for passive optical systems without light amplification. In addition, such low-loss filters would be relevant to high-power applications. Phase-only filters also differ from conventional amplitude filters in their performance.
