Abstract

The following equations govern stimulated Raman scattering in the transient limit: There are two easily characterized evolution regimes.1 The first regime occurs at small z where the pump beam can be considered undepleted. In this regime the Stokes beam grows exponentially, and an integral solution has been found by Carmen et al.,2 where l Bessel functions appear. The second regime, the J regime, occurs at large z where the Stokes beam has nearly saturated. In this regime, the pump beam intensity decreases as z1/2 and an integral solution involving J Bessel functions has been found.
