Thermal design of optics for ALS beam lines

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This paper describes the heat loads and thermal design for optical components on synchrotron radiation beam lines at the Advanced Light Source (ALS). To accommodate the high heat loads produced by insertion device sources and still fully exploit the unique properties of the ALS, directly cooled mirror and diffraction grating substrates are used for minimizing thermal distortion of the optical surfaces.
