Abstract

Hologram generation can be accomplished in the optics regime by scanning an object simultaneously with two optical beams of slightly different temporal frequencies.1 We present an overview and our progress in this area. Scanned holograms of simple objects, such as lines and points, are presented and discussed. For real-time reconstruction, techniques for using an electron-beam-addressed spatial light modulator (EBSLM)2 have been investigated. By using an EBSLM we are able to avoid the photographic development procedures encountered in more traditional holographic arrangements and are thus able to reconstruct the object field from the scanned hologram in real time. We also present a basic overview of EBSLM operation in the context of object reconstruction. The advantages and limitations of using an EBSLM for this purpose are also discussed.
