Abstract

Previous research has been conducted on noise and its effect on accuracy in optical linear algebra processors by assuming tempo rally unmodulated light.1,2 In this paper, we explore the effects of temporal modulation of the light at the source and/or at the spatial light modulator on the standard deviation of the system output voltage. We begin with a theoretical analysis for a number of temporal waveforms (squarewave, ramp, etc.) and consider individually the effects at the light source and at the spatial light modulator. We then present results from experimental measurements. Finally, we discuss the effect of temporal modulation on computational accuracy.
