Abstract

Since the discovery of efficient SHG in germanosilicate fibers no other materials have been found which exhibit optically organized χ(2) gratings(1,2). We have discovered that CdSexS1−x semiconductor doped glasses can be prepared for efficient SHG when the glass is simultaneously exposed to 532 nm and 1.06 µm radiation from a Q-switched modelocked laser(3). The effect has resulted in the generation of SHG visible in room lights corresponding to a χ(2)~10−16m /V. Sidelight studies show that a phase-matched process is responsible for the SHG.
