Integrated optics for signal processing in optical recording heads

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

One avenue for reducing the mass and volume of optical recording heads is the use of integrated optical systems, completely integrated or hybrid with bulk optical components. The principles of design and the difficulties of implementing optical signal processing schemes in waveguides will be discussed with specific examples of grating and mode-index lens use.
