Locking range of general coupled lasers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A general model for coupled lasers is established. The coupled system is characterized by two parameters: the self-feedback, S, and the mutual coupling, M. The coupled system is analyzed as one composite system and the eigenvalues of the system are calculated. We show that the frequency locking range, δVR, is given by where L is the average length of the individual resonators. M and S are calculated for mode-matched Fabry-Perot type resonators and for adjoint coupled unstable resonators. Diffraction effects are taken into account and frequency locking range is estimated for a strip unstable resonator and a three-dimensional unstable resonator.
