Sources and sinks of waves in annular lasers

Abstract

It is advantageous to reduce the transverse degrees of freedom of the laser system to simplify the spatial intensity profile and its dynamic behavior. We do this by inserting a dot on the Brewster window and a diaphragm inside a laser with large Fresnel number, which reduces the intensity profile to an annulus. The annulus radius depends on the size of the dot and the radii of curvature of the mirrors.
