Image plane movement stability in Fabry-Perot interferometry

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Measurements and calculations have been completed for a Fabry-Perot interferometer that establishes the amount of image plane movement that can be tolerated for a given wavelength error requirement. The fringe system from a Fabry-Perot interferometer is circular with diameters of quadratic spacing. The fringe diameters are detected using a linear CCD photodiode array that is positioned through the diameters of the circular fringe pattern. In this paper, the wavelength errors are investigated that are induced by a detector array not remaining precisely on the interference fringe diameters. To obtain a required wavelength accuracy, these results are applied to the optomechanical mounting requirements of the Fabry-Perot interferometer, output imaging lens, and photodiode array.
